How to Use Coconut Oil to Prevent Frizzy Hair [VIDEO]

Do you know you can (semi-) waterproof your hair naturally with coconut oil? Yeah! Coconut penetrates hair, leaving no room for it to absorb humidity, making frizz impossible.

Watch and learn.

Hate videos? Read on to learn how to use coconut oil to prevent frizzy hair:

  1. Start with dry hair for best results. If you've just washed your hair, towel dry thoroughly.
  2. Put a small amount of coconut oil in the palm of your hand. You wanna use about 1/2 tsp or less, depending on how thick and long your hair is. If it's cold and solid, rub your palms together until it heats up. If not, just rub your palms together quickly to spread it across your hand.
  3. Rub the coconut oil into your hair by running your hands (in a cupped or prayer position) across sections of your hair. The idea is to get the coconut oil onto all strands of your hair without disrupting any curl or wave pattern. If your hair is straight, you can comb the oil through your hair in sections.
  4. Allow time for your hair to absorb the coconut oil to absorb.
  5. Go play in the rain! Okay, you'll still need an umbrella but you will look great under it.

Personally, I don't have an issue with frizz. I like when my hair collaborates with nature. It comes up with some interesting styles! Still, I know it's something that bothers most people. I hope this tip helps.

If you're thinking, "I'd do this except I hate the smell of coconut oil," avoid using extra-virgin coconut oil. A cheaper, more processed coconut oil doesn't smell as strong. I've used olive oil on my hair to preserve braid-outs too.
