If you've ever used your coffee grinder to grind whole spices, you know how gross your next cup of coffee can be if you don't clean it out well enough before you use it again. But do you know the easiest and most effective way to do it?
Here's the best way to clean your coffee grinder after grinding spices:
- Quickly wipe the inside of the spice grinder and the top with a slightly damp cloth or sponge.
- Put about 2 Tbsp of the cheapest (uncooked) rice you own into the spice grinder.
- Grind the rice until it becomes a flour.
- Toss the flour, then wipe the grinder again with a clean, damp cloth. (I would just use a different corner of the same cloth used in step 1.)
Do this and you'll have fresh coffee and perfect spice blends every time. Yay for coffee that doesn't taste like curry! Hooray for curry that doesn't taste like Chinese Five Spice!
Do you grind your own spices? If not, did you know making your own spice blends is a great way to save money and get the best flavor? Check out the top 50 spice mix recipes.
